Hayathem Bin Hasher is a Saudi lawyer and researcher in medical law and ethics, and the founder and chief executive of her own medical law firm and consultancy, the first practice in Saudi Arabia specialising in the field. She is the first Saudi to specialise in and hold several degrees in medical law and ethics, the first Saudi female lawyer in the discipline, and the first woman to found a medical law and ethics firm in the Kingdom. She was educated in the United Kingdom at Oxford University, King's College London, Brunel Law School and the University of Kent, and trained at their healthcare and legal facilities; a medical grounding from King's College London sits alongside her legal qualifications, and she holds a doctorate in medical law and medical ethics. She works as a lawyer, researcher, certified trainer, mentor, coach, author and speaker. Her practice addresses patients' rights, the rights of healthcare providers, medical negligence, the privatisation of health services and the wider questions facing health systems under the Kingdom's Vision 2030 health programmes. She has travelled for training and study to countries including the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Latvia and Taiwan, observing their healthcare and legal systems and taking part in conferences there, and her work extends to quality of care, patient satisfaction and rights, supervision and training of healthcare personnel, and medico legal intervention and advocacy. She campaigns for legal awareness among healthcare professionals and patients through conference participation, social media and publication in books, journals, newspapers and specialised magazines.
