Christina Yan Zhang

Christina Yan Zhang works on the international governance of emerging technologies and virtual worlds. She co-chairs the CitiVerse task group at the International Telecommunication Union and leads a track of the United Nations global initiative on artificial intelligence and virtual worlds, where she steered six UN technical standards to approval, including the official definitions of the metaverse and the CitiVerse, and co-authored the City Leader's Field Guide on preparing for the AI enabled CitiVerse. She completed a doctorate in 2012 on the use of digital twins in the architecture, engineering and construction industry, and was China director at the university rankings firm QS between 2013 and 2020. The Metaverse Institute, which she founded and leads, advises intergovernmental organisations, governments and corporations.
