Anwar M. Hashem, PhD, MBA, is Associate Professor of Immunology and Virology and Deputy Director of the King Fahd Medical Research Center at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah. His research covers the development of vaccines and antivirals, quality control of vaccines, virus and immunology research, antibody development and production, and the use of bioinformatics methods in infectious-disease research, with work that has informed the Kingdom's COVID-19 response. He has built research capacity both at his university and nationally to expand Saudi Arabia's vaccine-research capabilities, and has published more than 170 papers cited by over 5,500 researchers.
