André Hofmann

Chief Executive Officer

André Hofmann is a life sciences executive in the German state of Saxony. He is Chief Executive Officer of leap:up GmbH, based in Leipzig, the management company behind the biosaxony cluster, which brings together roughly 140 companies working in biotechnology, medical technology and the health economy; he also serves as Vice-Chairman of the biosaxony e.V. executive board. A trained biotechnologist, he is managing director of the BIO CITY Leipzig innovation centre, which hosts around 35 startups and small companies. Under his management the company initiated and operates MEDICAL FORGE LEIPZIG, an accelerator helping startups and SMEs enter the German healthcare market, alongside programmes such as the bionection technology-transfer conference, the biosaxony academy and the regional LifeScience Atlas. In 2025 the management company was renamed leap:up GmbH to reflect its growing activity outside Europe, while the association retained the biosaxony name.
