Saleh Zamanan
Poet and Playwright
Dr Saleh Zamanan is a Saudi poet, playwright and media figure, born in the Najran region in 1985 and regarded as among the leading voices in the Saudi prose poem and among the most significant playwrights in the Kingdom and the Gulf. He holds a bachelor's degree in Arabic from King Faisal University with honours and a PhD in the philosophy of drama and theatre criticism from Ain Shams University, with distinction and first-class honours, for a study of identity in Saudi theatre. He wrote the libretto for Zarqa Al-Yamama, the first Saudi opera, and in 2017 became the first Saudi writer to win the Al-Sanousi poetry prize, for his collection A'idun min Abih. His other works include A'mal al-Zahira, Fazza'at Nayya, Al-Bashkanjiyya, Al-Haris fi al-Thuqb and Azmat al-Ayn.
