Bernard Haykel
Professor of Near Eastern Studies
Dr Bernard Haykel is Professor of Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University and director of its Institute for Transregional Study of the Contemporary Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia. His research centres on the history of the Arabian Peninsula, Islamic movements and Salafi thought, and on political and economic transformation in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states. He has published books and peer-reviewed studies in these fields and is among the Western academics who follow Saudi affairs most closely and read most widely in its Arabic sources.
