Abdo Khal is a Saudi novelist and writer and among the Kingdom's most prominent narrative voices. He won the International Prize for Arabic Fiction in 2010 for Throwing Sparks, which addresses social inequality and the world of the palaces in Jeddah. His other novels include Al-Teen, Fusuq and Nubah, alongside his journalism. His writing works on the coastal city and its memory and on its marginalised classes, in a language that combines harshness with the poetic, and his work has been translated into several languages.
