Directing a division of this size in a national tertiary referral centre spans anatomic pathology, clinical chemistry, haematology, microbiology, immunology and molecular diagnostics, together with the accreditation, workforce and capital planning that hold them together. His own clinical background is in haematology, with longstanding work on bleeding and coagulation disorders and their diagnosis in the Saudi population.
