Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Asmari is Head of the Special Toxicological Analysis Section and a senior toxicology scientist and consultant forensic toxicologist at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in Riyadh. His field covers the analytical identification and quantification of drugs, poisons and their metabolites in biological samples, and the interpretation of those findings for clinical and medico-legal purposes. Much of his technical work concerns mass spectrometry, where advances in instrumentation and data handling have expanded what a toxicology laboratory can detect, at what concentration, and how quickly it can report a defensible result.
