Suha M. Sulimani is Director of the Healthy Marriage Program within the Deputyship of Population Health at the Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia. The premarital screening programme is one of the country's largest applied genetics initiatives, testing couples for carrier status of haemoglobinopathies and certain infectious diseases before marriage and providing counselling on the results. Running it involves laboratory capacity across the regions, standardised interpretation, counselling protocols and continuous evaluation of whether the programme changes outcomes.
