Moheeb Al-Awwami

Director, Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Laboratory

Moheeb Al-Awwami is Director of the Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Laboratory and of its fellowship programme at the Organ Transplant Center of Excellence, King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre, and an adjunct assistant professor in the college of medicine. His laboratory determines whether a donor organ is immunologically acceptable for a given recipient. The field has moved from serological typing to sequence-based methods, which resolve HLA alleles at far higher resolution and change how antibody risk is assessed before and after transplantation.
