Almohanad Alkayyal is a translational scientist with over a decade of experience in cancer immunotherapy, oncolytic virotherapy and biotechnology innovation. Oncolytic virotherapy uses viruses engineered or selected to replicate in tumour cells and provoke an immune response against them, and one line of that work examines whether SARS-CoV-2 can be repurposed from pathogen into a next-generation oncolytic agent. Translational science of this kind is concerned with moving a laboratory observation through preclinical evidence towards something a patient could eventually receive.
