Professor Muhammad Wakil Shahzad is the Chair in Advanced Energy and Sustainability at Northumbria University, a Royal Academy of Engineering Industrial Fellow, and Founder and CEO of EcoTechX, a deep-tech spinout commercialising next-generation desalination and water-from-air technologies. With over 15 years of experience across academia, industry, and government, his work focuses on real-world solutions in the water circular economy and energy systems integration. He has led and contributed to more than 10 million pounds in competitive research funding, and through EcoTechX has translated university research into deployable technologies with live pilots in the UK, Pakistan and Africa.
