Mariam Ouda

Mariam Ouda is a chemical and environmental engineer at Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi, specialising in advanced water treatment, membrane technologies and sustainable water management. She holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering and has extensive experience in membrane design, desalination pretreatment and the removal of emerging contaminants such as microplastics and heavy metals. During her doctoral work she designed an electro-membrane filtration system based on two-dimensional materials for separating nanoplastics from water, and filed a United States patent application. She works at the university's Research and Innovation Center for Graphene and 2D Materials on scaling up such membranes, and serves on the Early Career Editorial Board of the Journal of Water Process Engineering. She has authored more than 23 peer-reviewed publications, and was named to Forbes Middle East's 30 Under 30 Class of 2025 in the science and technology category.
