Lourdes García-Rodríguez

Full Professor, Department of Energy Engineering

Lourdes García-Rodríguez carries out her research at the University of Seville, within the solar desalination group of its School of Engineering. Her work joins renewable energy to water production: solar thermal collectors coupled to multi-effect distillation, reverse osmosis driven by solar energy, and the power cycles capable of running a desalination plant, among them organic Rankine cycles and supercritical carbon dioxide cycles. She has published comparative assessments of solar thermal technologies for seawater desalination and thermoeconomic analyses of solar multi-effect distillation plants. Small-capacity desalination systems driven by renewable energy receive particular attention in her work, that being the scale at which remote communities and dispersed demand are usually served.
