Ed Vaizey

Ed Vaizey was the Conservative Member of Parliament for Wantage from 2005 to 2019 and served as the United Kingdom's minister for culture, communications and creative industries from 2010 to 2016, the longest tenure anyone has held that post. In office he oversaw the rural broadband programme that reached more than four million homes and the rollout of 4G, extended tax reliefs for the creative industries, helped put coding on the school curriculum and published the first government White Paper on culture in fifty years. He was made a privy councillor in 2016 and was appointed to the House of Lords in September 2020 as Lord Vaizey of Didcot, where he sits on the Communications and Digital Committee. He chairs the UK-ASEAN Business Council, is a trustee of Tate and a governor of St Paul's School in London, and advises technology and digital health companies, among them the online mental wellbeing service Kooth and its United States platform Soluna. He presents a weekly culture programme on Times Radio, makes a culture podcast and writes a newsletter on technology and culture.
