Joachim Mueller is head of the Cochlear Implants and Hearing Prosthetics section in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Munich. Earlier in his career he worked at the ENT clinic of the University of Würzburg, where a research group under his leadership performed what was described as a worldwide first, bilateral cochlear implantation, in 1996, and bilateral implantation in children followed from 1998. He has been described by the manufacturer MED-EL as a surgeon with decades of cochlear implant experience, and has presented surgical techniques for cochlear implants and active bone conduction implants.
