Javier Gavilan

Professor and Chairman, Department of Otorhinolaryngology

Javier Gavilan Bouzas is a full professor (catedratico) of otorhinolaryngology in the Department of Surgery at the Autonomous University of Madrid, with La Paz University Hospital as his teaching clinical unit. He has been head of the Otorhinolaryngology Department at La Paz University Hospital in Madrid, and in a 2011 interview he discussed cochlear implantation in children, noting that the ideal time for implantation is around the first year of life and that it works only alongside an appropriate rehabilitation programme. He supervised a doctoral thesis on cochlear microphonic potentials in humans in 1997, and appears as an author of a 2024 clinical guideline on vestibular schwannoma and a 2022 consensus statement on bone conduction devices and active middle ear implants.
