Harutoki Shimura is a membrane scientist who leads the Middle East Water Treatment Technical Center. He has more than 15 years of experience in the research and development of polyamide reverse osmosis membranes. His research has addressed membrane nanostructure, durability, and long-term performance stability, and he has played a central role in developing the core technologies behind several brackish and seawater RO membranes that are widely used today. His work now bridges membrane science and real plant operation, supporting energy-efficient and sustainable desalination through membrane innovation, system integration, and technical collaboration.
