Giorgio Pratofiorito is a water treatment and desalination technologist in the research and development team at Fisia Italimpianti, the Italian contractor that has been building desalination and water treatment plants for some 50 years. His work centres on making desalination processes more efficient, with particular attention to optimising the potabilisation stage that turns desalinated water into drinking water, and on studying how renewable sources can power plants that are by their nature heavy consumers of energy. Fisia Italimpianti is part of the Webuild group, and the company states that the plants it has designed and built supply drinking water to more than 20 million people every day.
