Christian Bueger

Professor of International Relations

Christian Bueger is Professor of International Relations at the University of Copenhagen, where he leads the Ocean Infrastructures Research Group and the Copenhagen Ocean Hub in the Department of Political Science. He holds a PhD from the European University Institute (2010) and an MA from Goethe University Frankfurt, and joined Copenhagen in 2018 after serving as a professor at Cardiff University. He is a director and co-founder of SafeSeas, which supports analysis of maritime security and ocean governance, an honorary professor at the University of Seychelles, and co-author of Understanding Maritime Security (Oxford University Press, 2024). He has published more than 190 articles and has advised bodies including the European Union, the Indian Ocean Commission, the International Maritime Organization and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.
