Rear Admiral Prof. Tomasz Szubrycht was born on 1 October 1963 and has served as Rector-Commandant of the Polish Naval Academy in Gdynia since 23 January 2015. He graduated first in his class from the naval faculty in 1987 and served in a reconnaissance ship group, then commanded the ORP Hydrograf, named the Navy's best ship in the special ships category in 1999. He trained at the Naval Amphibious School in San Diego and studied at the US Naval War College in Newport from 1997 to 1998. He earned his doctorate in 2002, received the professorial title from Poland's president in 2013 and served as dean of the Faculty of Command and Naval Operations from 2012. He was promoted to rear admiral on 29 November 2018, is the author of more than 200 articles, monographs and creative works, and holds honorary academic titles from the Bulgarian and Romanian naval academies.
