Alaa Ibrahim

Alaa Ibrahim is a doctoral researcher in mechanical engineering at the University of Luxembourg. Her research centres on desalination systems, with a focus on membrane distillation, a thermally driven process in which water vapour crosses a hydrophobic membrane and condenses as fresh water on the other side. She investigates design strategies and thermal performance in order to enhance system efficiency, and her published work includes computational fluid dynamics studies of new spacer geometries that increase mixing in the hot feed channel and limit the temperature polarisation at the membrane surface that holds back permeate flux. She completed bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering at Alexandria University in Egypt.
