Wael A. Rahman is Lead ICS/OT Security Engineer at Petroleum Development Oman, the Sultanate’s largest oil and gas producer and the operator responsible for the greater part of its output. An industrial security engineer’s role differs from the managerial positions in this field: he is the one who goes to the site itself to inventory controllers, read network drawings, design segmentation zones and test that a security control does not disable an operational process. Oman’s fields are spread across vast areas with assets that run without interruption, so building visibility over the operations network there is as much an engineering task as a security one.
