Farid Esmaeil

Founding Partner and Principal Architect

Farid Esmaeil is founding partner and principal architect of X Architects, the Dubai-based studio he co-founded in 2003 with Ahmed Al-Ali. A graduate of the American University of Sharjah in the same year, he has driven conceptual projects that treat contemporary society, urban identity, and Arab culture as design questions rather than backdrops, including Xeritown, a sixty-hectare sustainable city concept in Dubai, and Al Nasseem, a twelve-hectare community development in Al-Ain. He lectures regularly at universities and institutions worldwide as a guest critic, and his writing on Dubai as an architectural laboratory has appeared in international architecture press, reflecting a practice built around translating Arab culture into contemporary built form.
