Alex Wong
Senior Advisor, Office of the Secretary-General
Alex Wong serves as Senior Advisor in the Office of the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations specialised agency for information and communication technologies, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. ITU brings together 194 member states and more than 1,000 private-sector and academic entities. Wong leads strategic engagement and signature initiatives, including the global AI for Good platform organised by ITU in partnership with 40 UN agency co-conveners. With more than 30 years of leadership experience focused on building partnerships to tackle major development challenges, Wong co-leads Giga, a joint ITU-UNICEF initiative to connect every school in the world to the internet. Prior to joining ITU, he was a member of the Executive Committee of the World Economic Forum, where he led several major initiatives on information and communication technologies and innovation. From 2018 to 2019, he served as President of CG/LA Infrastructure in Washington. Wong holds a Master's degree from the Harvard Kennedy School. He is widely regarded as an influential international voice on AI governance, bridging the digital divide, and expanding internet access in developing countries. He contributes regularly to leading global forums on the future of technology and sustainable development. His vision rests on the conviction that an inclusive and equitable digital transformation is a cornerstone for empowering communities and strengthening human capability worldwide.
