Ruskin Hartley

Chief Executive Officer

Ruskin Hartley is Chief Executive Officer of DarkSky International, the non-profit founded in 1988 that works to reduce light pollution and that certifies dark sky places, parks and reserves around the world. Its technical work reaches stadium and precinct design through lighting standards: shielding, colour temperature, spill and glare control and curfews that let a venue light a pitch to broadcast requirements without washing out the sky above the neighbourhood around it. Light from sports facilities is among the most visible sources of light pollution in cities, being intense, concentrated and switched on at night across long seasons.
