Rubi Mahmood
Lecturer in Initial Teacher Training and International Education
Rubi Mahmood is an international educator, consultant and doctoral researcher with more than 20 years of experience in the United Kingdom, the Middle East, Europe, Africa and Asia. She has contributed to large-scale education reform, teacher development programmes and international assessment projects in public and private education, working with organizations including Nord Anglia Education and CfBT Education. She is a lecturer in initial teacher education and international education at the University of Derby, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate programmes while completing her PhD on values-based approaches to embedding education for sustainable development in teacher-education curricula, drawing on environmental citizenship and global competence frameworks. She previously held senior roles with the Abu Dhabi Department of Knowledge, contributing to school improvement, student competence frameworks, international benchmarking and assessment, and special educational needs and inclusion. Her work spans global citizenship, sustainability education, the SDGs, STEM, inclusion and teacher professional development. She volunteers with STEM Racing competitions, is a Climate Ambassador, a school governor and a trustee of an arts charity, and she has presented at the European Parliament, UN-Habitat, BETT, CIES and IAIE.
