Michael Chan

Chief Executive Officer

Michael Chan has been Chief Executive Officer of Zand Bank in the United Arab Emirates since November 2022. Zand is a digital bank licensed in June 2022 and built around artificial intelligence and blockchain technology. He holds a bachelor's degree in computing and information systems from Monash University and a master's degree in finance from the City University of Hong Kong with a specialisation in financial engineering, and completed the Kellogg-HKUST executive MBA between 2007 and 2008. Before Zand he was regional chief operating officer for Asia Pacific at First Abu Dhabi Bank from 2018 to 2022, and earlier at Crédit Agricole CIB served as managing director for corporate development in Asia Pacific and as chief operating officer for Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. Under his leadership Zand became the first bank in the UAE to offer institutional digital asset custody under its banking licence and reached profitability within twenty-two months.
