David Birch

Global Ambassador

David G.W. Birch is an author, adviser and commentator on digital financial services. He is global ambassador at Consult Hyperion, the secure electronic transactions consultancy he helped found in 1986, technology fellow at the Centre for the Study of Financial Innovation in London, a visiting professor at the University of Surrey Business School and holds several board-level advisory roles. His career spans thirty-eight years advising global organisations on electronic payments, smart cards and digital identity infrastructure. He graduated from the University of Southampton with an honours degree in physics and worked as a consultant in Europe, the Far East and North America before helping to found the firm. His books include Identity is the New Money, published in 2014, and Before Babylon, Beyond Bitcoin, published in 2017 with a foreword by the chief economist of the Bank of England. Wired magazine named him among the global top fifteen sources of business information and he has been listed among the ten most influential voices in banking.
