George Theocharides

Chairman

Dr George Theocharides has chaired the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission since September 2021, having served as its vice chairman between July 2020 and September 2021 and earlier as a board member. He holds an honours degree in electrical engineering and electronics from the University of Manchester, an MBA from the University of San Diego and a PhD in finance from the University of Arizona. He was an associate professor of finance at the Cyprus International Institute of Management and director of its MSc in financial services between September 2010 and July 2020, an assistant professor of finance at Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea between 2006 and 2010, and an international faculty fellow at the MIT Sloan School of Management in 2006. He has served on the interim board of the Bank of Cyprus and chaired the board of Cyprus Blockchain Technologies, and is an associate member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and a research associate at the UCL Centre for Blockchain Technologies.
