Basil Mimi is the co-founder and chief executive of Mantas, based in Dubai, which is building a parametric insurance product covering cloud downtime with automatic payouts when infrastructure fails, based on the view that a cloud outage is a financial event and not merely a technical fault. He has more than a decade of experience in product management, leading cross-functional teams in artificial intelligence, fintech and big data, and has launched two startups in the Gulf. He has worked at companies including SenseTime, Gecko, Nebula and FOOZ Games, and holds a bachelor's degree in computer systems engineering. Mantas takes part in regional innovation programmes including the Mohammed bin Rashid Innovation Fund.
