Dr Abdullah bin Hussein Al-Sharif supervises the King Salman bin Abdulaziz Chair for the Study of Makkah's History at Umm Al-Qura University. The chair researches the history of Makkah across its eras, documenting its architecture, institutions and notable figures and the pilgrimage accounts written about it, and gathers and publishes the sources and documents relating to it. He oversees its research projects, scholarly publications and partnerships, with interests in Makkan sources and in reading the holy city's history in a scholarly way that serves researcher and visitor alike.
