Saudi Agriculture 2026 spotlights sharp gains in broiler production

Poultry company pavilions at Saudi Agriculture 2026 recorded heavy visitor turnout over the exhibition's run from 19 to 22 October in Riyadh, with attendees examining the latest technical developments in broiler production, according to a report carried by Sabq.

Mahmoud Hassan, a development manager at a poultry firm, said genetic improvement and advances in feed formulation have shortened the rearing period from roughly 60 days to between 26 and 27 days, while market weights have climbed from about 1.1 kilograms to a range of 1.7 to 1.8 kilograms, a shift that lowers production costs and improves feed conversion.

Hassan traced the trajectory to a long search for affordable animal protein, noting that breeding programmes now balance rapid growth with feed efficiency and disease resistance, while feed mixes are tailored to the nutritional needs of each growth stage. «Genetic improvement is one of the most prominent factors behind this development,» he said.

Strain selection, he added, follows consumer preferences in each market, with some lines suited to the weights favoured by Saudi buyers and others bred for heavier birds destined for different outlets, while economic viability and product quality remain the guiding criteria for the sector's development.
