UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of AI (GFEAI) 2026
About the event
Saudi Arabia, represented by the Saudi Data & AI Authority (SDAIA) and in collaboration with the International Centre for AI Research and Ethics (ICAIRE), hosts the fourth UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence at The Ritz-Carlton, Riyadh from 14–17 September 2026, under the theme “Transforming Global Cooperation for Ethical AI Governance.”
The forum convenes ministers, policymakers, experts, academics and representatives of international organizations and the public and private sectors to translate UNESCO’s 2021 Recommendation on the Ethics of AI into practical governance solutions, building on readiness assessments under way in more than 75 Member States.
Programme
A preparatory day (14 September) hosts parallel working meetings of UNESCO’s implementation networks and expert workshops, plus a private strategic briefing for ministerial participants and a closed-door ministerial dialogue on international cooperation.
Day one (15 September) is given to high-level dialogues on AI, multilateralism and diplomacy; five years of the Recommendation; and financing ethical AI governance. Days two and three run parallel sessions spanning institutional capacity in public administrations, humanitarian AI, youth mental health, environment and energy, the gender lens, synthetic biology, international supervision, health, sciences, access to justice, neural data and mental privacy, education, museums and physical AI.
The forum launches RAM 2.0 alongside its meta-analysis, and the AI Environment and Ecosystems Toolkit. A day-three session under the UNESCO Coalition for Linguistic Diversity devotes a dedicated segment to the Arabic language and its role in the diffusion of knowledge, dialogue and cultural exchange.
