Zafar Iqbal

Associate Medical Director and Vice President UK Faculty Public Health

Zafar Iqbal trained first as a general practitioner before moving into public health, and is a consultant working across all three domains of the discipline: health protection, health improvement and healthcare public health. He is associate medical director for public health at Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust in England and was elected vice-president of the United Kingdom Faculty of Public Health. He has held two director of public health posts in local government, and has also served as a medical director within an NHS trust and as registrar of the UK Public Health Register. He chairs the national NHS provider public health network, sat on the NHS England health checks clinical expert committee, and is on the advisory board of the Royal College of Psychiatrists Public Mental Health Implementation Centre. He has been involved with the Faculty's global health committee for a decade and holds visiting professorships at four academic institutions, among them Staffordshire University. He was named educational supervisor of the year at the West Midlands public health awards.
