Siow Ming Lee

Professor and Consultant Medical Oncologist, University College London Hospitals

Lee qualified at St Mary's Hospital Medical School, University of London, in 1982, trained in internal medicine at St Mary's, St Bartholomew's and King's College hospitals, and completed medical oncology fellowship training at Guy's Hospital in London and the Christie Hospital in Manchester. He was appointed consultant medical oncologist at University College London Hospitals in 1998, became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2003 and Professor of Medical Oncology at UCL in 2010. He is clinical lead of the UCLH thoracic medical oncology unit and chairs the London Lung Cancer Group. His investigator-led work includes some of the largest randomised first-line trials in non-small cell and small cell lung cancer, including studies of thalidomide, and his findings have fed into international treatment guidelines. He has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed papers, many as first or senior author, in journals including The Lancet, Lancet Oncology, Nature, the New England Journal of Medicine and Science. In May 2023 the British Thoracic Oncology Group presented him with its Lifetime Achievement Award at its meeting in Belfast.
