Dr. Shadi Alghaffari is Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research at the Faculty of Maritime Studies, King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah. The faculty is among the Kingdom’s oldest maritime academic bodies, with departments in marine science, marine chemistry, marine biology, marine geology and maritime transport, and a research fleet operating in the Red Sea. The Red Sea is a globally singular marine environment for its salinity and temperature and for corals that tolerate conditions lethal to their counterparts in other oceans, which has made it a reference laboratory for studying reef resilience to warming.
