Richard Schoebel is Regional Director at ID Quantique, the Geneva-headquartered Swiss company specialising in quantum-safe cybersecurity, quantum key distribution and quantum sensing, which became part of IonQ after IonQ agreed in February 2025 to acquire SK Telecom's controlling stake in the business. Based in Dubai, he focuses on expanding the company's presence across key Middle East markets and on supporting clients in securing their communication infrastructures against the threat quantum computing poses to current cryptography. He brings more than a decade of international experience across the telecommunications and aviation sectors, working with chief information security officers and organisational leaders on advancing their security posture, with previous roles at Stromasys, Reichle & De-Massari, comsuisse and Schmid Telecom. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering from Deutsche Telekom Fachhochschule Leipzig. Speaking to Arab News about the regional quantum market, he observed that after years of slow progress the region is now seeing real movement in quantum and that adoption is picking up pace.
