Ghaith Al-Shaya

Writer and Researcher in Modern History and Industrial Heritage

Ghaith Al-Shayea is a Saudi writer and researcher in modern history and industrial heritage — the field concerned with documenting the plant, equipment and crafts that accompanied industrial transformation and preserving their memory. His work covers the beginnings of industry, transport and energy in the Kingdom and the sites and buildings associated with them, and their value as heritage worth preserving rather than merely old structures. It rests on archival research, site visits and the collection of photographs and testimony, and has helped bring attention to a form of heritage that is often overlooked.
