Awadh Mohammed Almaker graduated in Chemical Engineering from King Saud University's College of Engineering in 1989. He joined SABIC that year at its Jubail manufacturing affiliate Kemya, where he held several posts, the last of which was General Manager, Manufacturing. In early 2003 he moved to Ibn Rushd in Yanbu as General Manager, becoming President in January 2004. In November 2009 he was appointed Manufacturing Vice President for Yanbu, leading the new organisation for all Yanbu manufacturing sites and the Sinopec SABIC Tianjin Petrochemical Company. He moved to the business side in 2012 leading the polypropylene business unit, and in September 2013 was appointed by the SABIC board as Executive Vice President leading SABIC's global manufacturing sites. In May 2015 he was appointed Executive Vice President for Technology and Innovation, leading SABIC's global research and development, and from October 2016 to June 2020 led SABIC Shared Services as Executive Vice President. He currently holds board memberships in listed companies including Yansab and Yanbu Cement as well as private companies including FAMI, and has served as Chairman of the Board for Ysapet, Kemya, Ibn Sina, Samac and Scientific Design, and on the advisory boards of the King Saud University and King Abdulaziz University colleges of engineering and of AspenTech.
