Prof. Alkhidr Abdulbaqi Mohammed is Director of the Nigerian Centre for Arabic Research, a Nigerian academic specialising in Arabic language and literature and in the study of Arabic heritage in West Africa. The centre researches, documents and publishes Arabic and Islamic manuscripts in Nigeria and studies the imprint of Arab culture in the region. His work covers cultural relations between Africa and the Arab world, the history of writing in Arabic across the western Sudan, and efforts to preserve this manuscript legacy and open it to researchers.
