World Energy Council
The World Energy Council is an independent, non-governmental and not-for-profit international organisation founded in 1923 by Daniel Dunlop, who brought together representatives of forty countries to address the problems of the energy industry. Its secretariat is based in London and it holds UN-accredited status. Membership spans more than 3,000 organisations across over 100 countries, represented by national member committees that bring together governments, energy companies, regulators, academics and civil society, working to promote the sustainable supply and use of energy for the greatest benefit of all people. The Council convenes the World Energy Congress, the sector's oldest independent gathering, alongside its recurring studies including the World Energy Trilemma framework, the World Energy Issues Monitor and the World Energy Scenarios. Its Humanising Energy vision guides its programmes towards involving more people and communities in energy transitions. Dr Angela Wilkinson serves as Secretary General and CEO.
