Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services
The Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services is the Saudi government body responsible for the Kingdom's transport and logistics sector across its five sub-sectors: railways, air transport, road transport, maritime, and logistics and postal services. Its origins go back to 1953, when the Ministry of Communications was established to oversee roads, railways and ports; the body was renamed the Ministry of Transport in 2003, and in 2021 the Council of Ministers approved its current name. The Ministry develops the sector's strategies and policies, issues operating licences and supervises compliance, and its Minister has chaired the General Authority of Civil Aviation since 2016. It delivers the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to establish the Kingdom as a global logistics hub linking three continents in line with Saudi Vision 2030, by improving the passenger and freight experience, strengthening the regulatory environment, raising the maturity of the logistics ecosystem, developing national talent and local content, and expanding international and domestic partnerships.
