Rounds dedicated to Saudi-bred camels at the Crown Prince Camel Festival 2026 have drawn more than 1,600 camels across the Haqayeq and Laqaya categories, according to the Saudi Press Agency, signaling a robust expansion of the local production base and a stronger footprint for Saudi owners and breeders in the sport.
The Haqayeq category alone saw 989 camels enter the track, while the opening rounds of Laqaya brought in 671 competitors, with two additional cup rounds for Saudi-bred camels scheduled for Tuesday, further underscoring the depth of national participation.
Eng. Mahmoud Al-Balawi, Executive Director of Saudi Camel Sports, attributed the surge to a thriving local production sector, noting that dedicated rounds have carved out more space for Saudi owners to demonstrate the caliber of their national breeds, thereby enhancing market value and nurturing a sustainable sports and economic environment.
Organized by Saudi Camel Sports, the festival is being held at the Taif Camel Racing Track with total prize money exceeding SAR50 million, cementing its status as a premier event in the camel racing calendar.
